I am Laura Werbin, a visual artist and designer working across drawing, illustration, digital art, mixed media, assemblage, storytelling and creative experimentation.
I was born in Rosario, Argentina, where drawing became part of my life very early. At eighteen I moved to Israel, and later studied graphic design at Bezalel Academy of Art and Design in Jerusalem.
For many years I worked as a graphic designer, art director and illustrator. Alongside design, I continued making my own work — drawing, painting, experimenting with digital images and combining different materials and techniques.
My work has never stayed in one place for very long. A drawing can become a painting. A character can begin to talk and become a story. An old artwork can find a new life in a different space. Photographs taken decades ago can return as moving images. New technologies, including AI, have become another part of this continuing process of making, looking and discovering.
The tools keep changing. My curiosity doesn't.
I also move between languages. I was born speaking Spanish and have lived most of my adult life in Israel. When words become part of my artwork, sometimes they come to me in Spanish and sometimes in English. I let the project decide.
laurawerbin.com is not a conventional portfolio. It is a portal to my projects.
Each project has its own identity, its own visual language and sometimes its own website. Here they can exist together without having to become the same thing: drawings and stories, mixed-media artworks and assemblages, digital art, photography, experiments with space and movement, and work created with new technologies.
Some projects began many years ago. Others are happening now. New ones will probably appear.
One thing leads to another.
